Goulburn Valley Devils

STATE CHAMPIONS WEEK TUESDAY 12^th JAN – FRIDAY 15^th January – 2021

Played at Warrnambool

 

After training many Monday nights at Stanhope/Hill Top the Devils ventured to the Under 18 State Championships in Warrnambool. A fantastic facility and we were quite comfortable with all their Covid procedures etc to make us safe.

Th Devils started the week off on Tuesday with triples – Jorja Ponton/Hayley Hancock/Maddison Marin –

Jacob Cartwright/Ben Fletcher/Josh Cartwright – Olivia Cartwright & partners from Glen Roy. Unfortunately, we had some tough opponents and didn’t make it through to round 2.

Tuesday Night Ben played his singles and again put up a good fight against a more experience player.

Wednesday – Girls Pairs Jorja/Hayley and Olivia & Partner Jordyn played.  Olivia and Jordyn went down in the final coming home with the silver medal.

Wednesday also saw Olivia play her State singles. It was a great game and Olivia came away with great experience and motivation to make this years event.

Thursday saw the mixed combinations play – Josh/Jorja,  Olivia/Brock,  Jacob/Hayley,  Mick/Maddie

Unfortunately we had a draw where Olivia played Jacob in first round. Then Olivia lost the next one. The remaining devils didn’t win a match.

Friday Charlie and Henry Boswood joined us for the Boys Pairs and also the girls singles was played.

Charlie and Jacob went down in their first match, Henry had a walk over and then went down against the overall winners.  Josh and partner had 1 win and went down to the runners up.

Ben and Partner made it to the last 4.

The girls singles finished off the week in style Jorja and Hayley gained some great experience in their match.

Olivia continued on her winning form throughout the day to take the Victoria Under 18 Singles title in a great display of bowls. It was all very exciting – especially after 4 days of bowls with early starts and long days was great to see concentration sticking out to the end.

 

It was also great to watch the more experienced seniors playing and a special mention and much appreciated support from Kevin/Jean and Col Power who regularly watched the kids play.
